Come spend the day at Carl’s studio immersed in the art of Raku firing—an exciting, fast-paced ceramic technique known for its dramatic surfaces, metallic finishes, and unpredictable beauty. This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced ceramicists alike who want to explore this exhilarating alternative firing method.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of Raku, including glaze application, kiln loading, safe removal of red-hot pieces, and post-firing reduction techniques that create unique crackle patterns and iridescent effects. The day will include demonstrations, guided practice, and multiple firing opportunities so you can experiment and refine your approach.
All firing materials—including glazes, combustible reduction materials, kiln use, and safety equipment—are included.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with several finished Raku-fired pieces and a deeper understanding of this unique firing process.

Join us for a meaningful workshop where art meets community outreach. In this hands-on session, participants will learn the fundamentals of handbuilding as they create two unique ceramic bowls from clay.
Each participant will make two bowls: one to take home as a personal keepsake, and one to contribute to our Empty Bowls Fundraiser, a global movement supporting efforts to fight hunger. Donated bowls will be used in a community event where guests share a simple meal and take home a handmade bowl as a reminder of those facing food insecurity.
This workshop is perfect for individuals, friends, or families looking to connect, create, and give back. All materials and tools are provided, and finished pieces will be fired for pickup at a later date.
Come get your hands in clay and be part of something bigger—one bowl at a time!
